Way to accumulate the contents of a text column?

Hello,
Have a list where owners are to update their row weekly with a status. Ideally, I'd like that information to accumulate (with a time stamp) in a column somewhere so that a history of the status info was available.
I'm not certain how to do this. Is it possible 'out of the box"? I'm not wanting to have to write special code to get this functionality.
